Physical Description Hastios is a physically commanding figure, standing at 6’4” with a frame forged through centuries of uncompromising physical discipline. His muscular build is both dense and agile, a perfect blend of power and precision honed for both battlefield survival and covert engagement. Every movement he makes carries the efficiency of a soldier trained to respond before others react.

His light brown hair is kept close-cropped and practical, complementing the sharpness of his features. His eyes, a vivid green, are steady and penetrating—often conveying more in silence than others do in speech. While his face remains unscarred, his body bears the marks of his long service: a deep knife wound across his left side from a Nausicaan ambush, a bladed burn scar on his right shoulder from the Tholian trap, and several plasma grazes along his back and left thigh, faded but ever-present reminders of the wars he’s survived.

In accordance with ancient El Aurian traditions—particularly those revived by his family after the Fall—Hastios bears ceremonial tattoos inked in geometric spirals and flowing script. These faint, silver-blue markings trace along his upper arms, shoulders, and down the right side of his ribcage. Not purely decorative, they are symbolic of memory, ancestry, and the sacred burden of bearing witness—etched into the skin using vibrational resonance patterns known only to El Aurian artisans. Under certain lighting or heightened emotional states, the ink seems to catch the air itself, subtly pulsing with iridescent undertones.

In uniform, Hastios maintains a clean, tactical appearance, always ready for immediate deployment. Off duty—rare though that is—he favours simple, functional clothing, often sleeveless to allow full mobility and, perhaps unconsciously, to display the history carved into his form.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Hastios is the embodiment of enduring strength and stoic resilience. Centuries of experience have shaped him into a man of few wasted words and fewer wasted actions. He is deliberate, unwavering, and exacting—both in the field and in his expectations of those who serve under him. His presence carries weight, not simply because of his stature, but because of the quiet authority earned through survival, sacrifice, and command.

He approaches leadership with a battlefield pragmatism: protect your people, complete the mission, and leave nothing unfinished. His style is not gentle, but it is fair—he expects excellence because he gives nothing less. Beneath the surface of his gruffness is a deep sense of loyalty to those who prove themselves capable and honourable.

His El Aurian heritage gives him a rare patience in moments where others might rush to judgement. He listens—carefully, perceptively—and stores every detail. In this way, his tactical brilliance is as much about reading people as it is about reading situations. But prolonged undercover operations and the trauma of El Auria’s destruction have also left scars: he is guarded, slow to trust, and prefers silence over vulnerability.

Despite his hardened exterior, Hastios is not without depth or introspection. He carries the memory of his lost world with solemn reverence, and those who gain his trust may catch glimpses of a dry wit, a keen intellect, or a surprisingly poetic turn of phrase. His El Aurian tattoos, carefully maintained, are a physical reminder that while time moves forward, identity must be remembered.

Ambitions Though long past the age when many El Aurians would settle into reflection, Hastios remains a soldier of purpose. His greatest ambition is to ensure peace through strength—protecting others from the kinds of losses his people endured. He continues to seek meaning in service and the occasional thrill of the unknown.
Hobbies & Interests Hastios maintains a rigorous personal training regimen, often visiting the gym multiple times a day for strength and endurance work. He participates in martial arts and wrestling, both for fitness and discipline. In quieter moments, he indulges in simple cooking and still enjoys holodeck recreations—often choosing rugged survival simulations or tactical scenarios over leisure programs. He has also authored Hastios’ Guide to the Galaxy, a travelogue laced with wisdom, wry humour, and the rare personal anecdote.

Personal History Early Life on El Auria (2105–2145)
Hastios Eilfaren was born in 2105 in the city of Ovaria on the El Aurian homeworld. The Eilfaren family held considerable standing within El Aurian society: his father, Silvyr Eilfaren, served as a High Judge, descending from a long line of lawmakers instrumental in shaping El Auria’s legal system; his mother, Gaelira Eilfaren, was a gifted scientist renowned for her work in advanced cybernetics.

Hastios spent his formative years under the tutelage of master scholars, historians, philosophers, and martial instructors. Like many El Aurians, he was inundated with the accumulated knowledge of centuries—lessons in art, science, law, and diplomacy—but he gravitated naturally toward physical pursuits. While not lacking in intellect, he found his deepest satisfaction in disciplines of the body: combat training, endurance challenges, and physical mastery.

Wanderer and Observer (2145–2216)
At the age of 40, Hastios left El Auria to travel the stars. In true El Aurian fashion, he became an observer, a student of cultures and their rise and fall. He acquired a small ship and loyal crew, voyaging across the quadrant and beyond. Among the worlds he visited were Earth, Cardassia, Vulcan, and Qo’noS, each experience deepening his understanding of what bound civilisations together—or tore them apart.

These travels were not without risk. In one infamous encounter, he sustained a blade wound from a Nausicaan during a dispute on a border world—an incident he later downplayed as "part of the fun," though the scar remains.

By 2208, Hastios returned home to document his journeys, honouring a cultural custom among El Aurians to preserve oral and written history. His tales captivated all audiences: scholars debated his observations, children listened wide-eyed to his recountings, and communities welcomed him as a speaker and teacher. His travelogue, Hastios’ Guide to the Galaxy, remains a fixture in El Aurian libraries and oral circles.

Service in the El Aurian Defence Force (2216–2265)
With the rise of the Borg threat, the El Aurian Defence Force—once a symbolic protectorate—shifted into a wartime footing. Hastios joined in 2216, lending his strength and experience to a cause that would ultimately prove desperate.

He fought in numerous engagements across allied systems, earning a reputation as a capable field commander. Despite their efforts, the Defence Force was overwhelmed. In the summer of 2265, El Auria fell. Cities were razed. Billions displaced or lost.

Hastios’ family, due to their societal status, had secured passage on one of the evacuation arks. But Hastios refused his seat. Instead, he remained behind to assist in the ground evacuation, escorting civilians and fellow soldiers through crumbling zones and holding defensive lines as long as possible.

Eventually, with his own ship beyond repair and most of his original crew dead or scattered, he boarded another ark weeks later under duress, guided by the will to survive.

The Exodus and the Founding of Kaitos (2265–2358)
During this period of chaos and grief, Hastios met Zaos Orihana—a fellow survivor whose vision for rebuilding El Aurian culture gave Hastios a renewed sense of direction. The two formed a strong bond, and Hastios aided Zaos in the discovery and initial colonisation efforts of Kaitos, a remote world that would become a sanctuary for their people.

While many of his kin chose to settle and rebuild, Hastios remained restless. The galaxy had changed—and he knew his place in it would no longer be among peaceful stars.

Joining Starfleet Marine Corps (2358–2363)
In 2358, over the objections of his father, Hastios left Kaitos and enlisted in the Starfleet Marine Corps. He thrived under the structured brutality of Marine training and quickly rose through the ranks, his physical advantages and combat acumen setting him apart.

He was posted to the USS Silver as a Corporal, attached to Marine Intelligence. Within two years, he was embedded undercover on Romulus, gathering vital intelligence on the internal fractures within the Romulan Empire. His work helped prevent a covert attack on a Federation colony in 2361—a mission still officially unacknowledged.

Espionage and the Cardassian Front (2363–2366)
Promoted to Staff Sergeant, Hastios led a four-man team embedded deep within Cardassian society. Over three years, they gathered strategic data, monitored military build-ups, and identified operatives acting against Federation interests. Though relieved when the armistice came, Hastios admitted to feeling conflicted; he had grown to respect the brutal efficiency of the Cardassians, even as he worked to counter them.

Wolf 359 and the USS Moriarty (2367-2369)
After a brief period of reintegration, Hastios was assigned as 2XO and Security/Tactical Officer aboard the USS Moriarty, a solely marine populated vessel. During the infamous Battle of Wolf 359, the commanding officer and XO were killed in action. Hastios, the senior surviving officer, took command. His tactical deception—feigning critical damage to avoid further engagement—enabled him to conduct rescue operations amid the wreckage, saving dozens of Starfleet personnel.

He was promoted to First Sergeant and retained command of the Moriarty, earning the loyalty of his crew and the respect of his peers.

Tholian Trap and Spec Ops Command (2369–2373)
While scouting near the Alegan system in 2369, the Moriarty responded to a derelict Tholian vessel. A trap. Tholians, masking their lifesigns, ambushed the away team. Hastios orchestrated a narrow escape by disabling the ship's shield generators, setting it to self-destruct, and extracting his team with portable transporters before reinforcements arrived.

In 2370, Hastios was given command of the USS Ares, a newly designed Defiant-class vessel with no official record. Outfitted for Marine Special Operations and equipped with a classified cloaking device, the Ares became a silent predator during the rising tension with the Dominion.

Dominion War and Temporal Blackout (2373–2378)
With war declared, the Ares was deployed beyond the wormhole to conduct infiltration, sabotage, and guerrilla operations. Hastios and his team engaged in high-risk missions that changed the course of entire campaigns. His request to appoint longtime friend Gunnery Sergeant Bernard Montgomery as XO was granted, forming a command pair unmatched in the field.

In 2375, the Ares intercepted intelligence regarding a Dominion temporal weapon project—an attempt to retroactively rewrite the war’s outcome. Hastios led the mission to destroy the facility, erasing not only the data but any evidence it had ever existed. It was his most classified and consequential operation.

Following the Dominion’s defeat, the Ares was quietly retired.

Transition to Command & Instruction (2378–2397)
Hastios relinquished command of the Ares to Montgomery and accepted a post on Starbase Lionheart under Brigadier General Henry Adama. He moved into operational oversight, mission assignment, and strategic planning. In 2382, he accepted a commission and became a Marine officer, rising to the rank of Captain and later Major by 2393.

From 2387 to 2397, he served as an instructor, physical trainer, and wrestling coach at Marine HQ on Earth—instilling discipline, strength, and tactical doctrine in the next generation.

USS Herodotus Assignment (2398–Present)
In 2398, Major Eilfaren was offered a final frontier: a classified position aboard the USS Herodotus, a vessel operating under the Department of Temporal Investigations. Officially, he serves as Chief Security and Tactical Officer, as well as Second Officer.

Unofficially, his role is far more complex—part protector, part observer, and part hunter of threats that don’t yet exist.
