Summary
On an Thucydides class starship, main engineering is located on Deck 3, and serves as the central control center for the ship's warp propulsion system, as well as the impulse propulsion system, and other engineering systems. The Chronal Travel Drive System is also housed here.

| Description | Engineering also serves as a backup control center in the event of a failure of the bridge. Workstations in engineering can be reconfigured to emulate conn, ops, tactical, and other command operations. This is a desirable site for such functions because of its protected location within the engineering hull and its proximity to key warp propulsion system components. Optical Data Network (ODN) hardlines provide protected backup communications to other major systems. From here, the chief engineering officer also coordinates all maintenance and repair of the vessel. This facility is located immediately adjacent to the matter/antimatter (M/AM) reaction chamber. For safety reasons, a system of containment forcefields are available to protect engineering from the M/AM reaction core chamber in case of serious malfunction, plasma breach, warp core breach, or similar contingency. Adjacent to the M/AM is the Temporal Travel Drive. From here an engineer can monitor the ship's integrity during temproal incursions. |
