Mission: Like Sands Through The Hourglass
Location: Office of The Chief Science Officer - Deck 5 - USS Herodotus
Timeline: MD002 1000 hrs

Addison was never the sort to just sit in her office to wait for people to come to her. With being on a new ship, she wanted to get an idea as to its layout. Deck Five, Addison was very interested in seeing and also to see who was there. Granted she did read over the manifest but, just the brief bio and image there, it wasn't enough to get any insight of the person. Off to Science Addison went, with an eager anticipation. The Science doors opened with a thrum, Addison stepping in. Her bright blue eyes glanced around, taking in the equipment that was there. To be polite and in some way announcing herself, Addison knocked on the frame with her knuckle.

"Hello, permission to enter?" Addison giving a bit of a smile.

As Addison spoke a creature resembling an Earth sparrow took off from somewhere inside of the lab and began fluttering around the lab.

"Sorry about that," the Orion science officer popped up from her seat behind a partial partition with a small control in her hand. She pressed a button and the bird flew back to it's docking port on one of the shelves. "I've been working on camouflaging these drones so that maybe the Captain will approve their use on our missions. A bird might be too obvious though... Anyway, come on in. C'Mila Juli." Juli extended her hand to the newcomer in a greeting.

Addison had paused to watch the little bird that was flying around, her eyes keen with interest. When C'Mila held out her hand, she stepped further inside engineering to accept her handshake. her grip firm but not overpowering. Her hand showed evidence that she worked with her hands. "Addison Talbert, CMO. Since I am new to the ship, I figured I'd get familiarized with it. I do like the design of that drone. Its very natural looking."

"Oh, thanks," Juli walked over and picked it up from it's docking station. "It's good for a standard sweep, but most birds don't really hover, so you couldn't study anything for very long without causing it to circle. I go back and forth. A lot of primitive societies used birds - fake birds for surveillance around important buildings and other sensitive areas, so I feel like the technology would be less likely to trip an alarm, you know?"

Juli held the robotic bird out in the palm of her hand for the doctor to investigate. "I'm also messing around with a few other things. Even getting a camera or some tricorder functions into areas where we can't physically get to might be helpful at some point, I figure. Since we're never to be seen. With that in mind, and fewer functions, I can get pretty small with these."

Addison gently took the bird from Juli's hand, looking at it closely. "This is a marvelous piece of art. As for something smaller, perhaps an insect? Sometimes there are those who have wished that they were a fly on the wall." Addison looking at Juli for the moment, before looking at the bird once more.

Juli's eyes widened as she smiled at the doctor. "A fly on the wall. I love it. You've got a mischievous side," Juli remarked. "Of course this is just a prototype based on an Earth sparrow circa 21st century. Non-native to the American continent, but brought there by Europeans. Anything we used would require some research into what is indigenous. And depending on where we go, that information may not always be available." Juli was animated as she talked about her ideas. It was clear she was excited about the work she was doing.

Juli's voice dropped an octave as she added, "I don't even know what we know about the alternate universes... Though I am finding out we know more than I thought we did."

Addison gave a soft chuckle. "I can be. Blame my older brothers. Dragging me into bits of mischief as well as my sisters. I will admit I did enjoy the pranks." her eyes turned a bit serious. "I came here for a dual reason, and that is besides seeing where the lab is at but also, doing a medical check up. I actually make house calls."

"You want to do one here in the science lab? I don't mind going to Sickbay. It's not like anything is a very far walk around her," Juli offered.

"I still wanted to see the science lab, but it would be good to take care of the medical, in sick bay. But first... give me the small tour." Addison responded.

Juli chuckled. "What you see here, is what you get. Small, but efficient. Over here to the right of where you came in, is the biological lab. One biobed, and the area is easily quarantined by sealing off the doors. Main research terminal is right here," Juli turned, and gestured at the large, round terminal behind her. "Our own dedicated computer core here for the lab on that wall. The open space is nice, I figure we'll keep that space flexible. Gives us room to haul something in here for study if needed."

Even though it was regarded as being small, Addison was visibly impressed. "I love how much can be fit in the space that it is set in. Practical and to me actually roomy in comparison to what I've worked in before." Addison couldn't help herself she was amazed as to what it seemed like there was on this ship. "Shall we go get you scanned, and also, do I have permission to access your records. I know I don't have to but I do prefer asking permission. A code that muy grandfather had followed."

"Whatever you want," Juli replied casually. "None of my skeletons are buried in medical records, so have at it." She gave the doctor an impish grin for effect.

"Oh you have skeletons?" Addison giving a small smile, "Off we go then to my little medical room?"

"Sure, after you! Give me two seconds." Amila walked back to the research terminal. She leaned over the terminal and typed in a few commands to shut down her research and log herself out. "Okay, I'm all yours!"

"Okay fantastic." Addison answered as they exited the science department.

Juli followed Addison to the turbolift. "This at least breaks up the day a bit. It's hard knowing how to prepare for anything not knowing what our first mission is. I mean, I've been reading up on the ship and understanding how it works. But I prefer to learn by doing, applying. I can only read and watch demonstrations for so long."

"I do like the hands on training as well, but I also do a great deal of studying to. I've medical records on the crew here to go over. Much to learn and much to do and I don't mind that at all."Addison stepping into the turbolift. "Deck 4." once the lift stopped, and the door opened, Addison stepped out onto Deck 4 then led the way to the door of sickbay. "Well here we are!"

"I hope you don't hold it against me if I don't share your enthusiasm," Juli quipped with an amused and curious grin as she entered sickbay.
