Mission: Like Sands Through The Hourglass
Location: Mess Hall - Deck 2 - USS Herodotus
Timeline: MD001 1700 hrs

The ship was docked at Kok Station, but the hum of Tarian reminded him that he was once again aboard a Federation Starship. While the hum of the engines were different than most, it allowed for Tarian to remember his younger days when he served both the Federation and Starfleet. Since he had just gotten done with meetings with various crew members, Tarian decided that he would get to know the ship a bit better before heading down to the Mess Hall to get a bite to eat.

Heading out of his office, Tarian adjusted his uniforms and allowed himself a brief moment to just listen to take in everything around him. Since he was part El-Aurian, Tarian loved to listen. He loved to listen to various conversations around him, the work being done on the ship, and whatever else might have been going on around him.

Tarian thought about the meetings that he just had with both the First Officer and the Chief Science Officer onboard. Both of the women he had just met had interesting perspectives on time and how they approached it.

Commander Sandoval was the ship's First Officer. He had met with her first, but allowed for an interesting conversation about Vulcan philosophy and the writings of Surak himself. While neither absolutely followed Surak's following, Tarian and Commander Sandoval shared a love for learning more about the ancient Vulcan and Romulan people.

Lieutenant Juli, on the other hand, had brought an entirely different energy. During their discussions, Tarian and Lieutenant Juli discussed various topics from temporal physics to the protected database back at DTI headquarters. Not only that, but during their meeting, Tarian got to learn more about how the Science Officer came onboard and her passion for various fields within science.

Tarian knew that it would be a pleasure to work along both of these officers and he knew that whatever antics they would get into would be interesting as much it would hopefully be fun.

While he was thinking about meeting both of these fellow officers, Tarian turned a corner and thought about how he hadn't eaten in a few hours. He had shared a few drinks with his guests, but nothing had been eaten in that time and Tarian knew how important it was to get a good meal in. Tarian turned a corner and entered a turbolift, ordering it up to the Mess Hall on Deck Two.

Tarian thought about it for a moment as the Turbolift took him from Deck Four to Deck Two. When he came onboard, Tarian instantly got his personal belongings into his quarters before heading down to his office to get some work done. Tarian hadn't gotten to take a good look of the ship since coming onboard and made a mental note to look around after getting something to eat for dinner.

Before too long, the turbolift doors opened and deposited Tarian onto Deck Two. It wasn't a far off walk to get to the Mess Hall, which was teaming with life with the dinner rush. Once he was inside and the doors shut behind him, Tarian took a look around at the various crewmen and women onboard the Herodotus that he would be serving with.

Since he was serving with the DTI, it had been quite a few years since Tarian served with more than a few people at a time. Time was such a fickle thing and it made it hard to work with more than a handful of trusted associates during the period between the Tomed Incident of 2311 and now. So, for Tarian to be able to open back up and talk with people again was something he was looking forward to.

Walking over to the replicator on one of the walls, Tarian ordered up a Bajoran Hasperat and some cranberry juice from Earth. One of the few people that Tarian had worked with during the past few decades was a Human that absolutely enjoyed drinking cranberry juice that was absolutely chilled. Tarian was opposed to trying it for some years, but one day, he decided to try it. It was one of the best drinks that he had tasted in quite some time.

Taking his plate over to an available table near the curved window, Tarian began digging into his meal. It didn't take long for him to finish his meal and drink before watching out the window at the swirls of the nebula outside the ship. Before long, Tarian got up out of his seat and headed out of the Mess Hall and towards the same turbolift he got off of several minutes earlier.

Tarian ordered the turbolift to take him down to the bowls of the ship, where several science labs were, as well as stuff like Stellar Cartography and Astrometrics were. Since he had talk to the Chief Science Officer, Tarian thought it would be best to make himself comfortable with where everything was on the ship. Not only that, but Tarian wanted to get to know how each part of the science labs were laid out, especially if he were to help use them from time to time.

It didn't take long for the turbolift to get down to Deck Five, where Tarian walked out onto the massive deck. The ship itself only appeared to be about five decks tall, but each deck was just as spacious as something like a Galaxy or Sovereign Class Starship.

Tarian walked around for a bit, just letting himself get lost on Deck Five. Tarian found himself walking into both Astrometrics and Stellar Cartography before making his way into a few of the science labs. Whenever there was someone in the labs, Tarian introduced himself and asked if he could be of any help. Most of the time, they were fine and Tarian thanked them for their time.

Tarian made his way throughout the ship for the better part of the next hour or two. He just wanted to get himself comfortable before officially introducing himself to the Captain in the morning or over the next few days. Before long, it was about time for Tarian to get off to his new quarters and get cleaned up before bed. He got onto the nearest turbolift and asked it to take him to his quarters.

Tarian couldn't help but smile as he got into his quarters and said to himself, "Welcome home."
