Mission:
Like Sands Through The Hourglass
Location: Sickbay - Deck 4 - USS Herodotus
Timeline: MD002 0700 hrs
One of the things that Tarian hated most was going to see the doctor for....quite literally anything. He wasn't sure what caused this resistance with medical staff, but it was something that Tarian disliked for quite some time. Deciding that it would be better to get his medical review done sooner rather than later, Tarian got dressed for his duty shift before heading down to Deck Four, where Sickbay and his own office was found.
Walking into Sickbay, Tarian looked around to see if there was anyone around. While looking around, he noticed that Sickbay, much like the rest of the ship, utilized the space that was given to it. However, Tarian was quickly brought out of his own mind when he heard someone asking him if he could be helped. He looked around for a moment before seeing someone wearing a uniform with blue on their shoulders.
Tarian walked a bit further into Sickbay and helped to close the gap between him and what appeared to be one of the medical officers manning SIckbay. He replied back to the man, "Yeah, I was looking to get my medical review done before we shipped out and wanted to come by to see if anyone could help me out with that?"
The man smiled and replied, "Yeah, I can help you out with that. I'm Dr. Manning, one of the doctors from Kok base that's helping the ship out while you guys look for your medical staff. Take a seat on the surgical bed as I grab all my equipment. As I do, is there anything that has been bothering you or have you had any issues with temporal sicknesses lately?"
As Tarian hopped up onto the bed and thought about it for a second, he didn't instantly recall anything that had been bothering him. When the doctor came over, Tarian replied, "Nothing that I can think about right off hand. For the most part, I've felt rather healthy since the last time that I got a checkup."
Dr. Manning took out the scanner device out of his medical tricorder and started to go over Tarian, taking the necessary scans of him for the records. As he looked over Tarian and took the scans, Manning said, "Well, that's good to hear. When was the last time that you got yourself a check up? Has it been recently, in the past 6-12 months? Longer than that?"
Tarian couldn't help but chuckle, as it had been several years since he got a good checkup like this one. He looked at Manning and replied, "Yeah, it has been longer than a year since I got a good workup like this Doc. Sorry to disappoint."
Manning waved his hands and replied, "Believe me when I say that I've heard that more often than not. It's funny how some people will go to the doctor's office every day if they could, while others avoid them as much as humanly possible."
Tarian silently related to the second person Manning was talking about. He couldn't help but chuckle before saying, "Yeah, I feel like the second person you just mentioned, as I've gone as little as possible. I don't know why I don't like going to the doctor, but I just avoid them whenever possible. That's part of the reason why I decided to get this done sooner rather just pushing it off further and further into the future."
Manning just simply nodded as he continued to work on Tarian. After a few brief moments, Manning said, "Okay, do you mind taking your uniform jacket off? It is interfering with some of the scans that I'm trying to take. You can keep the underjacket on, but just take off the outer jacket."
Tarian quickly went to work on taking his uniform's outer layer off before folding it and laying it on the surgical bed next to him. Manning went back to work, knowing that Tarian didn't like going to the doctors. While they waited and Manning ran his tests, he looked up at Tarian's spots and asked, "You must be a Trill, by those spots on your side."
Tarian chuckled for a moment before replying, "Half Trill, actually. Other half is El-Aurian on my mom's side of the family."
Manning looked at the scans and nodded gently before saying, "Ah, yes! That would make sense with these readings. I was detecting some different genes within you that weren't wholly Trill. That's part of what made me ask you about your heritage."
"Yeah, my parents met over 300 years ago after Trill started to join the greater universe. It was after the Trill scientists found out how to go faster than light and started to experiment with it in their local space. Vulcans saw the tests being done and made First Contact after that. However, it wasn't something that went well, as the Vulcans were coldly logical and the Trill were more in tune with their emotions, as they could join and have that connection. My mom was brought in to help mediate and that's when she eventually met my father, who was a historian that was studying this major event in his world's History," Tarian said, thinking about the stories that his father would tell him about the History of Trill, especially when his parents met.
Manning couldn't help but smile as Tarian recounted a little bit of his own History. While Manning was just a Human doctor, he enjoyed learning more about History and since Tarian had lived so much of it, Manning could learn more about it. Manning looked at Tarian and said, "That's awesome! I wish I could have seen stuff like that or Doctor Cochrane's first warp flight. History has always been a second love of mine behind medicine."
The tricorder in Manning's hand beeped for a few seconds as he looked down at it. Tarian became a little alarmed, but Manning quickly came up and said, "Alright, it looks as though you're out the woods, as they say. It looks as though you are completly healthy and are fit to continue your duties onboard. I'll file this report into the computer and you shouldn't have to worry about anything unless something comes up. Do you need anything else from me before I let you go?"
Tarian jumped off the surgical biobed as he grabbed his uniform jacket. He was putting it back on as he replied, "No, I think that I'm good. But, thank you for making that a bit easier on this old fella!"
Manning smiled and replied, "Yeah, no problem. Like I said before, if you need anything at all, just let me know!"
With that, Tarian was done putting his uniform back on and thanked the doctor before heading out to start his duty shift. But, he was thankful to have that all done and over with.
