Mission:
In The Nick Of Time
Location: Bridge - Deck 1 - USS Herodotus
Timeline: MD001 1700 hrs
Thorrin stepped out from his Ready Room and took his seat in the center chair. Things seemed simultaneously different and the same. He thought that must be a feeling due to his exceptionally long life. He felt like everything stayed the same just the faces changed. "Morning, ladies and gentlemen. I imagine this is a great time for a mission. Mr Spencer, kindly contact station command and get our clearance for departure. All other stations give me a go/no go for departure." He tugged the tunic of his uniform and sat with his legs crossed.
"I am a go," Marisa replied. He did ask for all stations, and her console showed that all was ready. She was excited for her first launch aboard the Herodotus after the days of preparation. It was also her first time traveling on a timeship.
Wyatt looked up from his console. "I just completed a diagnostic," he said, "we are green across the board. All systems are at optimum output."
Then, almost as an afterthought, he continued, "Oh, and good morning."
Aloria was sitting at his station near the main viewscreen as he looked around at all the faces on the Bridge. "We're green across the board over here as well. Temporal drive is ready and temporal coordinates ready just in case we have to go back in time. So, let's kick it....just make sure to kick it right!"
The science console was intuitive, easy to use. Juli had been pleasantly surprised that at least with the new ship and advanced technology, that the Herodotus at least had that going for it. Once she had double checked that all of her systems were good to go, she turned so that she was angled slightly toward the command center. "Captain, science is good to go."
Nira manned the engineering station on the bridge. She had taken over for Chief Zosia who had been called away at extremely short notice. That was the nature of their call to the Herodotus and she shouldn't have been surprised that the opposite could occur. The bridge always felt a strange place for an engineer to be without the need to actually put something back together, to fix something. Instead one hand rested on the console and the other calmly on her lap as she surveyed the read-outs. Chief Zosia had been totally invested in making sure the plasma flow regulators were just right and running secondary diagnostics on the temporal matrix aligners. That was her last gift to the ship before departing.
"Engineering reports ready across all drives," she said aloud, eyes scanning one last readout. Her tone was calm, but focused. "Primary warp coils are stable and EPS grid is within 0.01% variance. We’re a go from Engineering, Captain."
Tarian looked at Nira from his station and said, "You've actually gotten the EPS grid that finely tuned? That's actually quite impressive."
"You can thank Chief Zosia for that." Nira chirped back. It was her parting gift after all.
Hastios looked across the bridge for a mere second as the other officers gave their yays or nays. "Security and tactical department is green captain." he said simply. As a marine he was mostly always to the point and any other information was simply fluff that would fill the air unnecessarily.
Sitting at her station, M'Ressa made one last check over her controls before turning her chair around, "Helm ready and awaiting heading. Impulse, Warp and Temporal drives ready"
Addison had come onto the bridge and found a place out of the way, to observe and also experience the first flight of this crew on the Herodotus. This would be the only time she'd be here when the ship leaves the station and goes on its way. Unless, of course, there was an emergency. Other than that, this was a treat and she was grateful that Thorrin gave permission for her to be here. The reporting of stations being ready to go. Her eyes going from one person to the next who had spoken up. Memories once again came to the surface of times in her past, faint voices of those who had crewed her small ship, all reporting that stations were ready to go. She quieted those memories, standing there quietly, immersing herself in this moment.
Once all stations had reported and her console showed all green, Marisa looked around at the other bridge officers one last time. This was their first launch as a crew, and she was eager to see how they worked together. She turned to Thorrin. "All stations report ready. By your command, Captain."
Thorrin sipped his ever-present glass of wine and squinted into the viewscreen. This was and is always the moment he savoured most. "Very well, XO, and thank you. Lieutenant M'Ressa, you may take us out. When we are clear of the station, set a course for Kroatia at warp six. Let's see who has the time."
Addison loved being able to watch the Herodotus leave the station and once they were sufficiently away and headed into warp. Addison quietly said to Thorrin,"thank you Captain." then left the bridge to go to medical.
"Anytime my good doctor. Feel free to visit us anytime." Thorrin smiled for the first time in what seemed like a long time. He was actually happy to be underway and to have a mission, a puzzle to solve.
